FCC Sends Medical Supplies to Mali

In the last 26 years, Supplies Over Seas (SOS), a Louisville based organization, has saved more than one million pounds of medical supplies and equipment from landfills, and delivered health and hope to medically impoverished communities in 105 countries, including the United States.

This year, with support from a First Christian Church of Louisville Wholeness Grant, SOS helped ship a 40-foot container of medical supplies to the Segou region of Mali. These medical supplies were distributed to area clinics in the villages of Medine, Sebougou, and Pelegana that provide free or reduced-cost care primarily for women and orphans.

The container had 11,006 pounds of medical supplies and equipment. Included were pallets of OB/GYN supplies, dressings, gloves, orthopedic items, 7 hospital beds, 2 exam tables, labor and delivery bed, microscope, and an ultrasound.

Madani Sissoko, Executive Director of Humanitarian Association Farikolo Nienedie sent an email of thanks to Denise Sears, President of SOS, for the members of the First Christian Church of Louisville. It read:

"It is a real pleasure for us to receive medical equipment donations from Louisville through SOS Supplies Over Sears for our Humanitarian Association Farikolo Nienedie in Ségou that you have kindly addressed to us to meet the urgent needs of children and women, to involve the population of Segou Health for All.

On behalf of our Organization, we will not be able to ignore this very important effort you have made towards all of us in Ségou. That's why we assure you that no effort will be too much for us to use the DONATION materials so well.

Please accept the sincere thanks of the whole community of Ségou and your partners here. I thank the donors from the bottom of my heart: "That the human person is the most precious of riches and serve humanity constitutes the noblest of a Life."

To all the volunteers who helped pack medical supplies a big thank you to you and all your family for these noble acts because you are in an industrialized country and we are a country that needs development.
