Stephen Ministers June 2022
by Penny Brill
Funny thing; I thought I had dodged the bullet. I thought I had made it this far, going with all protocols, masking, distance, hand washing… Then I got COVID. Alrighty then. Time to re-evaluate.
I had time to think. I was forced to slow down. I had nobody but me for entertainment.
One of the things that I thought of was one of the sermons Amanda gave preaching on the fact that scripture is a living thing. It changes based on our situation in life. Scripture meets us where we are.
If something as lasting and powerful as the Bible is a living, evolving message……it made me think about how I react and deal with situations. Perhaps then, there is no black and white perspective. Perhaps we need to analyze and respond to situations as they occur in real time, not from a historical perspective. Where we are today is based on the situations and events in life that got us here. This personal evolution most definitely forms our perspective. But our path is our own and can only form our view. Not one that works for anyone’s or any other situation. Sure it helps us identify and emphasize, but only God helps us find our path.
This is where Stephen Ministry can be an asset to anyone looking for the comfort and peace that faith offers. This is a non-judgmental, confidential program to help others when they are overwhelmed with life situations. We are people who have walked some of your paths and who can offer you a drink of cold water and hopefully help you find the calm in the storm.
If you are looking for a way back to coping and a strength that God can give, reach out to the church office and ask to be connected to the Stephen Ministry program.

"…Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water. He said 'Come.' So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind he became frightened, and beginning to sink he cried out, 'Lord save me.' Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, 'You of little faith, why did you doubt me?' ~Matthew 14:28-31
