FCC Serves Low Income Kids in Churchill Downs Area

Grace Kids United Methodist Church is a congregation solely for children and youth in the neighborhood near Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. This neighborhood is one of the most poverty stricken in Louisville. It is the goal if the pastors and volunteers at Grace Kids “to create authentic disciples that are leaders in all facets of their lives; whether in the church, in the school, or in the community”.The church serves children and youth that are coming from various backgrounds and facing numerous challenges.

Beyond church services, the pastors and volunteers at Grace Kids, have created a space for the children of the community to have a place to hang out and be kids. Additionally, the church services meals throughout the week to children and their families and also take care of many of the needs of their congregants including, among other concerns, every day hygiene. First Christian Church was pleased to partner with Grace Kids, providing a Wholeness Ministry Grant for the purchase of a washer and dryer as well as detergent and other laundry supplies. Providing children and youth with a place to clean their clothes helps the feel more confident and put together as they go to school, to work and as they interact with their peers and neighbors.
