FCC Provides 150 Safe Sleep Kits!
Meet Baby Sincere. She lives with her mother and 4 siblings at Wayside Christian Mission (homeless shelter) on Jefferson St. She was 10 days old when staff from Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness met her because of a referral from a social worker at Wayside. The social worker knew that her mom was being discharged from the hospital and that she would need a safe place to lay her baby down while she slept.
Through partnerships like Wayside and First Christian Church of Louisville, staff at Louisville Metro are able to identify and provide a pack and play with other educational materials to this new mom and others in the community. She was given a demonstration about proper assembling and the importance of following the guidelines for safe sleep. Not only did she receive the pack and play, she was also referred to Healthy Start, a home visitation program that will work with her until she is 2 years of age.
A 2017 wholeness grant from FCC, which was matched by another donor, has provided 50 Safe Sleep Kits. This is in addition to the 50 we helped to provide in both 2015 and 2016 for a new total of 150 Safe Sleep Kits in three years.
Each of these kits includes the following:
- A Graco Pack 'n Play Crib
- A fitted sheet with a "safe sleep message."
- A Halo Sleep Sack
- A Phillips Soothie Pacifier
- Safe Sleep Educational Material and DVD
- One Children's Book
If you know someone in need of a safe place for their infant to sleep, please have them contact the Louisville Cribs for Kids program at 574-1947.
The wholeness grant used to fund this ministry was made possible through your faithful financial support of our church and its ministries and help fund a variety of efforts to make our world a better place.
