FCC Helps Louisville's MOLO Village Provide Ministry of Healing and Hope
The MOLO Village Community Development Corporation (MVCDC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2011 by St. Peter’s Church to engage residents of west Louisville’s historic Russell neighborhood in holistic approaches to community development.
MOLO especially focuses its work on individuals and families impacted by the high rate of poverty, incarceration, and recidivism by helping them transform themselves into resources that benefit the entire community.
“MOLO” means“welcome” in Xhousa (a South African dialect); at MOLO Village, everyone is welcome to add their own contributions since “it takes a village.” Their inclusive village consists of five “hamlets,” (or programmatic areas) each with a unique focus that grows a community of healthy, engaged and productive residents preparing to take their families and their neighborhood on a path to prosperity.
Because incarceration plays such a big role in the lives of many families in Russell and preclude their ability to move out of poverty, all of MOLO’s programs have a programmatic focus to work with youth, men, and women who are either at risk of incarceration or have recently been released.
This is our third year of providing a wholeness grant to this great organization and in March 2018 grant funds were used to provide the children of MOLO with the opportunity to see "Marvel's Black Panther" in theaters! To learn more about MOLO Village, please visit their website.
