2020 Peace Catalyst Iftar
Ramadan 2020 has begun! Many of our friends, both Christian and Muslim, routinely gather for Ramadan iftar meals. How does that happen in the season of COVID? Online! Okay, it's hard to share baklava, and you may have to bring your own humus, but we can still come together to support one another. Join us online on May 5, 2020!
If you would like to join the Zoom window opens at 7:00 p.m. During this check-in time you can watch videos and chat through the comment section with Muslims and Christians from around the world. The official meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in conjunction with the Turkish American Friendship Association. We will have some icebreaker games and table discussions in breakout rooms. The sun sets around 8:40 p.m. at which time we will hear the call to prayer and break our fast. If you have a sweet dried date and water at your house, you can break the fast like Muhammad did years ago. Next we will observe our Muslim friends' prayers, complete with social distancing. Though we will not be able to eat together, which is a huge disappointment, we will have opportunity to work together on a joint community project.
In Louisville we have good relationships between Christians and Muslims. In this time of social distancing, let's not be socially isolated. We hope you can join us!
