An Open Letter to Parents who were in church 12/11/22

Here we are in a season of Joy and in a spirit of Giving. A wonderful time if we can let go of the stress and hustle and bustle from the true meaning of the season. We had an inspired and meaningful reminder of that this Sunday in the intergenerational production we were treated to. If this performance did not shake the Scrooge out of us, we have no heart!

Jesus said bring the children to me. Children are the hope and future of any church. To say that my heart was overflowing with excitement, seeing the participation was an understatement. What our church, and truly any church, needs is youth. And youth who can get their parents involved. There is a need for this to balance the roles that many of us “seniors” have filled. It is time for more senior mentoring and advising, and more involvement of younger members. Church can only grow and exist with multigenerational leadership.

I am grateful and blessed by the support I witnessed this Sunday. I remember growing up in First Christian Church, when we were downtown at Fourth and Breckenridge. There were quite a few of us who as children knew and regularly communicated with the “seniors” in the congregation. Bring your children to worship; I want to get to know them by name. We both benefit from the interaction.

In Christ ( from one the old people ),
