Major News About Build A Bed 2021
A message from FCC President, Melissa Swan
This year one of FCC’s most cherished missions is changing.
Over the past several years FCC members have built hundreds of beds for children in Jefferson County who would otherwise be sleeping on floors or couches. In previous years, our incredibly generous benefactor, K-I lumber has cut and sanded the lumber for us. THAT WON’T HAPPEN THIS YEAR. As with many post-COVID endeavors BUILD-A-BED is changing. We are grateful that K-I is willing to provide wood during a lumber shortage! They are making sure that in the midst of the shortage, Build A Bed has the needed wood.
This year, we will have to sand the lumber and cut it to size. We will also assemble the beds, bag the bedding, cuddly toys, books and dental hygiene items as we have always done. The work will be done over two days. We will cut and sand on Saturday, October 30 and assemble the beds and gifts on Sunday, December 5.
This new approach will take about 40 of volunteers on each day. Without the needed volunteers FCC’s Build-A-Bed won’t be possible.
You can sign up to volunteer here OR on the sign-up sheets in the Narthex. You can volunteer for one day or both days. I encourage FCC members to volunteer for this all-important mission work. Bring your your family, friends and neighbors!
We are a great church that gets things done. Let’s not let this mission be sidelined for lack of volunteers.
As ever, I am grateful for all you do to support one another and our community.

**As with everything these days, our Build A Bed plans are COVID contingent. We are moving forward in the hopes that we can complete this mission. We will be monitoring the situation to determine the best and safest ways to do so.
