First Christian Helps to Power Up Technology at Local Elementary School

Whitney Young Elementary School teacher Mary Sapienza saw a need at the school where she teaches and applied for Wholeness Grant from First Christian Church of Louisville to help her meet it.

After receiving her grant, Mary wrote the following as a way of sharing her story:

"A little background about my school. I work at Whitney Young Elementary School located on 34th and Muhammad Ali Boulevard. My school is a Title 1 school that received 100% free and reduced lunch.

Before having a computer-charging cart in my classroom, the electronic devices were plugged into outlets throughout the classroom to charge. Charging time was limited to school hours because charging over night was difficult because the devices had to be left out in an insecure classroom. The conflict was if we were charging during the day, how were my students going to be able to use them for instruction during class time?

This grant allows my classroom to have a portable computer-charging cart. This cart makes it possible for the technology supplies to be safe and secure in our classroom and ready for daily use. This cart allows all devices to charge in an organized simple manner overnight and be ready for instruction the next day. The cart allows the devices to be secure because the cart locks.

The students rotate weekly with the job of maintaining the technology in the cart using a check out and check in process. This process allows my students to gain responsibility in maintaining the materials in our classroom.

We are so happy to start each day at school with charged secure devices in the computer-charging cart that you bought for us. Thank you!"

The wholeness grant used to fund this ministry was made possible through your faithful financial support of our church and its ministries and help fund a variety of efforts to make our world a better place.
