FCC Supports Disciples of Christ Hurricane Relief

In September 2019, Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm, stalled over the northern islands of The Bahamas. Damage to the islands of Grand Bahama and Abaco was incredibly severe. By the time the storm had passed a day later, the destruction was immense. As of September 6, approximately 13,000 homes had already been reported destroyed.

Week of Compassion, the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), began working to send help and relief to the affected areas. In those early days, Disciples in the path of the storm began caring for each other and neighbors in need. From camps and conference centers offering shelter to those displaced and congregations assembling hygiene kits and clean-up buckets, to churches all across the country taking special offerings; in all of these places, our wider Church was present to those in need. First Christian Church of Louisville, a Disciples of Christ Church was happy to join the effort to help those suffering from the after effects the storm with a Wholeness Grant sent directly to Week of Compassion.

The wholeness grant used to fund this ministry was made possible through your faithful financial support of our church and its ministries and help fund a variety of efforts to make our world a better place.
