FCC Provides High Caliber Educational Support to Louisville’s Children

Sowing Seeds with Faith is a Louisville-based private tutoring service which provides after school tutoring and summer programming. Tutors with the program range from JCPS teachers to JCPS retirees to current college students. Sowing Seeds provides the highest caliber of educational support to students of K-12 in every subject. Sowing Seeds with Faith particularly excels in math, reading comprehension, and black history. In addition, Sowing Seeds has made it their mission and guarantee, that regardless of financial restraints, no student will ever be turned away. First Christian Church was excited to partner with Sowing Seeds of Faith again this year to fund various programs and initiatives, including STEM and STEAM curriculum and field trips.

In the Sowing Seeds with Faith summer program, 3 hours of every morning are dedicated to academic enrichment to close the current achievement gap that plagues Louisville’s inner city youth. This time is focused on preparing students for the upcoming academic year and filling in the gap of some missed concepts and principles from the previous academic year. The curriculum is centered on advancing students in the following areas: math, reading comprehension, financial literacy, and black history. The afternoon summer sessions, Pathways to Success program, engage over 120 students, from more than 35 schools and representing more than 20 zip codes, in extracurricular activities such as Spanish, yoga, culinary skills, martial arts, choir, physical fitness, science technology, fencing, tap dancing, robotics, coding, photography, dental hygiene, poetry, chivalry and etiquette.

On Fridays, the children are often taken on field trips, both local and further afield. This year, the kids even traveled to Washington D.C where they visited the New National Museum of African American History and Culture, and were able to explore our capital and learn. They also visited Howard University and learn about its history and importance.

The wholeness grant used to fund this ministry was made possible through your faithful financial support of our church and its ministries and help fund a variety of efforts to make our world a better place.
