Elder Compass - November 2018
Elders Prayer Ministry
by Gilbert Darnell
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22 (NIV)
One of our most important responsibilities as Elders is to lift up prayers for the congregation. As you may have noticed, the FCC Elders have not reached out to our church families this year for prayer requests for the “Annual Elder Prayer Service.” Instead, we have been considering how we can transition from the annual service to a new “Elder Prayer Ministry” to better serve our faith community.
Over the past several months, FCC Elders have been evaluating this new ministry concept, and we believe we can better serve the congregation by reaching out more frequently. We know that many of you currently send prayer requests to staff and Elders, and this new ministry will in no way replace that, but the Elders want to be more intentional with our prayer efforts, and we see this new ministry as a way to build greater relationships with church families.
Before year-end, each Elder will begin contacting a designated group of church families to learn of any prayer concerns and/or praises. The intent is that each Elder will serve their respective families throughout the year, making contact and offering prayers on a regular basis.
Please watch for more information on this in the coming weeks. Please pray that this becomes a meaningful and blessed ministry for all members of our community of faith.
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people. Colossians 1:3-4 (NIV)
