Teaching English to people who live in Louisville and speak a foreign language is a very, very rewarding experience. You get to know your students, learn about their families' experiences and enjoy supporting their progress in our language, which they are so keen to learn. Best of all, you will discover how appreciative these students are for your help as well as any advice you can share about living in Louisville.
EACM offers FREE English classes at all levels - from beginners who are learning English for the first time, to intermediate and advanced English speakers. Classes are taught by volunteers and are available in-person or online via Zoom. EACM presently has 14 teachers who share duties presenting 18 classes to between 60 and 75 students. However, Louisville is experiencing a dramatic increase in the number of people wanting to learn English. EACM will soon need to accommodate three times as many students as they currently serve. For this, an additional 20 volunteer instructors are needed.
The main requirement for volunteer instructors is that they bring enthusiasm to teaching people how to speak English. Don't worry if you haven't taught before, we'll help you prepare to coach your students! The most difficult aspect of instructing is lesson preparation. Teachers are free to prepare their own lessons although EACM also provides first-rate lesson plans ready for presentation from Elli, a premier provider of ESL lessons. Volunteer instructors simply need to review the lesson plan and prepare to present it to their class. Classroom performance is completely under the control of our volunteer instructors.
If you feel that you might enjoy providing this desperately needed help to eager students, please contact Paty Robles, Director of Multicultural Community Services, at (502) 426-2824 or at eacmonline.org/services/free-english-classes/. Soon you will be enjoying the company of highly appreciative students who are eager to receive your instruction in speaking English.
