FCC Flies WWII Vets to DC in Honor Flight

Honor Flight Bluegrass is a non profit organization whose mission is to fly WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans to Washington DC to see their Memorials that were built to honor their services to their country. Based out of Louisville and volunteer run, Honor Flight Bluegrass ensures that all Veterans fly free and are paid for by donations. They go on a one day trip and come home to a celebration they often did not receive when they came home from their service. It is often described as one of the best days of their lives.

First Christian Church was thrilled to offer a Wholeness Grant to pay for two veterans to fly to Washington, DC as well as gifting additional funds for a D-Day Celebration. On May 28, 2019, Honor Flight Bluegrass flew 20 WWII Veterans, 58 Korean War Veterans, and 7 Vietnam War Veterans...and brought them home to an appreciative crowd of over 1,000 people who welcome them in a manner that was well deserved. This flight was followed up a week later with “Operation Bravo Zulu” on June 6th to honor WWII Veterans on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. For this event, 109 WWII Veterans, ranging in age from 90 to 103, were honored with thank you’s, entertainment, and special presentations. The historic event was among a week of activities to thank the members of the “Greatest Generation” for their sacrifices during WWII.

The wholeness grant used to fund this ministry was made possible through your faithful financial support of our church and its ministries and help fund a variety of efforts to make our world a better place.
