We are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
You don't have to look very hard to see ways in which our lives and communities are broken and fragmented. As a movement for wholeness, First Christian Church encourages individuals to identify and name the places that you see brokenness and fragmentation in our world and bring some healing and wholeness into those areas. This is your chance to become the healing hands of Christ!
Watch the following video to learn more about our mission to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world:
Note: When this video was made, we only had 40 wholeness ministries.
We now have dozens more! When are you going to add yours to that number
How can I get started?
· Ask yourself the following question: “Where do I see fragmentation in the world around me?”
· Once you have identified an example, ask, “How can I bring wholeness into that fragmentation?”
· Once you have done that, you simply need to establish how your ministry can come into reality. Does it need support? Identify your needs (volunteers, connections, source of funding, etc.).
· Call First Christian Church and speak to one of our staff members to discuss your Wholeness ministry ideas.
Some of our current Wholeness Ministries:
Books for the Pewee Valley Women’s Correctional Facility: A collection of books for the prison library. Books (no magazines please) of any kind are welcomed! If you’d like to donate, give us a call or just stop by.
Eli's Gift - This gift is in cooperation with Yellow Cab of Louisville and several local dining and pub establishments. The ministry provides free cab vouchers to anyone who feels they are too intoxicated to safely drive.
Shoe drive for clean water - this ministry is on-going. We’ve donated 1,130 pair of shoes to Edge Outreach. Bring your (new or used) shoes to the church and the EDGE folks use them as a vehicle to provide clean drinking water! Once collected, the shoes get a second life through sale to exporters and recyclers for resale and/or materials for new items (the shoes are exported to places like South America and India where people that need them can barter or purchase them for a nominal charge). Money from the sale of the shoes will purchase well-drilling rigs, water filtration systems, and other supplies to bring clean, fresh water to those in need. Clean out your closets, and any kind of shoes qualify! Tie or rubber band pairs together. Drop them off in the “SHOE” collection barrel, lower level of FCC.

Kentucky Refugee Ministries - Through the winter KY Refugee Ministries will continue to need blankets and coats. These can be left in the bin across from Paula's office and we will get them to KRM. Another way you can help is by designating KRM as an agency request when you take donations to Goodwill. KRM get credit for anything you ask them to credit to them as an agency. Then the KRM clients can get a voucher to shop for what they need at any Goodwill location. We have done this and it is easy and efficient. Goodwill has the agency forms and will do the paperwork for you. Thank you for helping to "welcome the stranger" into the Louisville community.
FOOD PANTRY is held the third Tuesday of every month. In partnership with Dare to Care, we feed about 75 families a month. Volunteer help is needed noon to 6 p.m. Check out this video featuring our food Pantry
Healing Baskets - Contribute items that can be used in making a basket for someone who is ill, recovering from surgery, undergoing cancer treatment, etc. Ideas include gift cards to Bath & Body Works, Kroger, Target, Wal-mart, etc. Items you have at home may make perfect gifts to lift the spirits of someone who is very ill, to include books, candles, CDs and DVDs and so on. Questions? A donation bin is outside church office.
Prayer Ministry - Prayer team gladly prays for your requests. Anytime you’d like to submit a prayer request, please call or email Paula in the church office.
