Our Minister of Music
Phil Copeland, is a nationally known composer of contemporary music. The winner of two EMMY Awards, his music is heard on ESPN’s “Sports Century” and has been performed on all major television networks. His credits include the 2006 Kentucky Tourism music for radio and television, CBS’s “Guiding Light,” PBS’s “Who Will Teach for America?” and A&E’s “Eagles Over The Gulf”, television and radio station image campaigns, and numerous scores for international corporations including IBM, KFC, Kodak and Eli Lily. His children’s music credits include the scores for Texas Instrument’s “Peek-a-boo Zoo” and “Roll the Ball.” As Music Minister, Phil leads FCC’s Praise and Worship Team, the Disciples' Chorus (the church’s mixed voice choir) and the Men’s Singing Group.
Our Praise and Worship Team
The 9:30 and 11:00 AM contemporary worship services are led by First Light comprised of drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, percussion and 10 vocalists providing a powerful musical worship experience to each service. There are more than 25 members of FCC on our Praise and Worship Team, including our sound engineers who record and edit our Sunday services.
CDs of the service are available each week, and have become a powerful tool to bring the message of Jesus Christ to members and friends.
Our Choir/Singing Group
The Choir and Men’s Singing Group perform contemporary Christian music, and are open to all voices. Reading music is not a requirement. Well over half of our members do not read music; they just love to sing from the heart. First Christian Church furnishes members of the chorus with songbook and a CD of the music they will perform. The CD has the music and vocals on one channel, and their part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass) played on the piano on the opposite channel. Members can then rehearse in their automobile, home or anywhere they have access to a player. The CDs “teach” them their part . Rehearsals are Wednesday nights, at 6:40 p.m. following our Wednesday Night Fellowship meal, that is served at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The Men’s Singing Group has become a men’s fellowship time. The same format applies with the CDs for learning and practicing the parts. Please feel to explore our music groups and ask questions.
The Joyful Noise Children’s Choir
Reverend Jeanie Ash, who is a member of the worship band, First Light, leads this high energy group of children in grades PK-5th to sing, dance, and praise God! The Joyful Noise Choir meets on Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. The children sing regularly in worship and present an annual Christmas Pageant for the 11:00 a.m. worship service.
