We at First Christian Church have a strong and long standing commitment to our children’s spiritual development as they grow toward and in their faith in God. It is our hope that every child who comes through our doors will learn about the Christian faith, nurture a life-long relationship with Jesus Christ and experience the loving presence of God from our congregation.
CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES
A warm and caring nursery is open from 8:15 a.m. until after the 11:00 a.m. worship service for infant and toddler care. Your children will be signed in and pagers are available if your child needs you to return to the nursery.
Sunday School is held for all children, birth through the fifth grade every Sunday morning at 9:30 am in the Interest Area of First Kids. Children learn bible stories from devoted teachers and share their faith through mission activities.
Worship and Wonder is held each Sunday for two different age groups. Children ages 3 through Kindergarten meet in the upper level, room 201. Children grades 1-5 meet in room 105, on the lower level. Parents can drop their child off just prior to the 11 a.m. worship service or the child can remain in worship to sing the Praise Songs and then be escorted to their rooms. The children are taught a bible story through a Montessori method and are free to form creative and artistic responses.
Service of Dedication Parents of infants are invited to a special Service of Dedication welcoming them into the church’s nurturing life and care and anticipating a later point in their lives when they will confess their faith in Christ and be baptized. It is an occasion for the parents and congregation to enter into a covenant of care on behalf of its children. Please speak to the Senior Minister, Rev. Brian Gerard to schedule a time for this very meaningful event.
Baptism Classes are offered once a year for three weeks prior to Easter. They are for children, generally from 2-5th grade, who have expressed an interest in becoming baptized. This class is designed to teach children the meaning of baptism, communion, prayer, and what it means to be a Christian.
Church Camp is held in the summer in Yosemite, KY for children of all ages (including family camp for the smaller children). Many happy memories are created through all types of Christian experiences from singing around the campfire, games, swimming, hiking, music and art, and experiencing God through their own special worship services and nature.
Acolytes Children in grades 1-5 have a very important place in the ministry serving as Acolytes. They are the Ministers of the Light, as they call us to gather in God's presence. If your child would like to serve as an Acolyte, please see me to schedule their time for training and instruction.
ANNUAL CHILDREN'S EVENTS
Our Easter Egg Hunt is held every spring on Palm Sunday during our Sunday School hour- 9:30 a.m. We gather, children and parents, in the Interest Area of First Kids to make a craft, hear the story of Easter Story read and then go, in older and younger groups, out onto our lawn to hunt Easter Eggs.

We have teen and adult lead Vacation Bible School each summer in early June. Our entire church family rallies around this time special time because we want to share the good news of Jesus Christ with as much energy, fun and love as we can!

Our Food-Free Halloween Party is lead by our youth and held every fall. Our church has wooded proper try where the teens set up a "not too spooky trail" on which the children can trick-or-treat for toys and prizes! We make this event festive and may have games and bouncers to add to the fun! We end the evening with a bon fire and somewhat scary stories!

Our Intergenerational Christmas Pageant is held during Advent. Our children write the pageant and many people, of all ages, take part. This is always a meaningful, surprising and fun to share the story of Jesus birth together!

"At First Christian Church we seek to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Supper as God has welcomed us."
